This recipe for pie dough is so easy. I have been told before that making pie dough is one of my superpowers & I wanted to share my secrets with you. I hope you find it as easy to make as I do and if you are having any problems feel free to post a comment & I will try to help you in any way that I can.
Ingredients (makes one pie crust)
1 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 stick of cold butter (unsalted)
1/4 cup cold water plus 1/8 cup water
Instructions
- Pour flour, salt & sugar into a large bowl and whisk together
- Cut the butter up into small pieces & add to the bowl
- Using an electric mixer mix together until course making sure the butter is broken up into very small pieces
- slowly pour water in while mixing until combined
- mix on medium for about 20 seconds and then knead the dough into a ball
- Take the ball of dough and press it down until it forms a disc shape
- Your pie dough is now ready to go – you will need to freeze it for 20 minutes before rolling the dough out for a pie crust
Tips: When you’re making this pie dough remember that you don’t want to overmix it. This recipe has more water in it than some other recipes you may find, I like my dough to be slightly wet so that I can more easily knead it into a ball without it crumbling. If you find that the dough is sticking to the surface when you roll it out you may want to sprinkle some flour on each side of the dough disc If you prefer to refrigerate your dough you could do that instead and it will take about an hour.
